Voter ID

Posted

For Mr. Bill Schweers and other similarly confused liberals who just cannot seem to understand the simple reason conservatives continue to fight to preserve the sanctity of the American voting privilege.

Every American citizen, either by birth or naturalization, that I know of willingly produces an ID if they need to buy an airline ticket or attempt to board a flight; cash a check or sometimes just to use a credit card.

A few decades ago I was required show an ID to buy a legal adult beverage and to prove I was old enough to qualify for a driver’s license. Today, occasionally, I may even need to prove that I am entitled to a senior discount. If I leave the country, not only am I required to produce an ID to enter another one, but I also have to show one to get back into my own!

Conservative Americans do not consider it an invasion of privacy to be asked to confirm that we are the same person as the one listed on the voting register.

At the same time, we do not suggest or demand that voters should be asked if they own property, pay taxes, are a current or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces, have completed even one day of formal education or even if they contribute to any recognized charity.

We ask for nothing to show they have in any way “earned” a right to vote, just simply to confirm they are legally entitled to this sacred right and privilege.

Hundreds of thousands have died in defense of our voting rights. In comparison, acquiring and producing an ID is an embarrassingly small sacrifice for any American to confirm his legal right to exercise that privilege.
