Vicious dog

Posted

This letter is to alert dog owners in Fountain Hills of a young sandy- haired man on rollerblades with a dog that looks like a brown and white German short- haired pointer until closer inspection reveals a very muscular dog with a block head like a pit bull.

On Sunday July 6, 7:10 p.m., our dog was attacked by this dog after his owner assured us his dog was very friendly and “loved” other dogs.

So instead of crossing the road, we proceeded towards this dog. As our 105-pound gentle giant wagged his tail in a greeting, this other dog without warning began attacking our dog’s head, putting holes in his ear and tongue, and ripping a hole open on the top of his head.

The young man’s comment, “What just happened here, man?” I informed him of the obvious, that his dog had just attacked and injured our dog.

In speaking with a few people around town I have found that we are most likely not the first victims of this dog. The only thing that changes is the location of the attacks. I presume after an attack this man and his dog then move to a new area.

The deputy I spoke with told me that Fountain Hills does not have a statute against vicious dogs if they are on a leash...it is just a dog encounter! Why should I be afraid to take my dog for a walk in my neighborhood?

It is time to for Fountain Hills to change the Town Code with a statute that makes the owners of vicious dogs responsible for their actions.
