Thank you Mr. Schweers for your thoughtful letter regarding voting issues and the Republican Party’s grand plan to deny the right to vote from millions of legal citizens of the United States.
Supporters of voter ID laws routinely justify them by claiming they are necessary to combat an epidemic of people showing up at the polls and claiming to be someone else. And yet, when asked to prove that such an epidemic exists, their case immediately falls apart.
It is getting harder and harder for democracy to survive with the greedy rich old white men and women in America deciding they want to rule the country.
Starting with tea partiers like the Koch brothers in Kansas and Art Pope in North Carolina, they are taking over our country one state at a time. These men want to be kings and rule this country and have just begun their takeover and destruction of democracy and freedom in America. They have no intention of supporting or continuing any form of a fair election process in the United States.
All you have to do is take a close look at the elections in our own community to know this is a fact. To elect means to choose or make a decision.
Our last election for the office of mayor of Fountain Hills offered one candidate; there was no choice.
Needless to say, this situation deprives us of our democratic independence and forces us into a position of submission and subservience to the greedy rich old white men and women.
