Robert 'Bob' Littfin

Posted

Robert (Bob) Littfin, 87-years-old, passed away on April 27, 2016, in a hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was on a trip to a Car Museum.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., to Raymond and Edna Littfin. In 1939, his parents moved to Lake Zurich, Ill., where he grew up. His father was a sheet metal worker. Bob learned from him, and he helped his father build their family home in Lake Zurich.

Bob was an exceptional athlete and excelled at basketball, baseball, ice skating, swimming, hunting, bowling and later in life, golf became his passion. He later took an interest in restoring old cars. He graduated from Lake Zurich High School in 1947. In 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Keisler, and they were blessed with six children. Bob worked with his father in many different sheet metal companies throughout the Chicago area.

Along with his sheet metal career, he became very interested in home construction and built his first two homes for his family to live in, the first when he was just 18! He loved spending time with his children and teaching them ice skating, swimming, diving and archery.

He moved his family to Denver, Colo., in 1972, where he joined American Builders, Inc., (which would later become Pulte Homes). There he became vice president of construction in the Denver area.

In 1983, Bob and a partner started Rare Custom Builders. After building a few beautiful homes, he decided to retire for good at the young age of 55. Living in the Denver area he enjoyed snow skiing and jeeping with the entire family still continuing with his love of golf and old cars.

In 1985, he traded in snow country for golf country, and he and Evie moved to Fountain Hills, Ariz. Bob joined the local Automobile Club and became very active.

He is preceded in death by his two daughters, Bonnie Jo and Linda Sue. He leaves behind his wife, Evie, of 68 years of marriage; children: Peggy (John) Sauerwald, of Brighton, Mich., Valorie Imgarten of Newark, Del., Jeffrey (Della) Littfin of Whitefish, Mont. and Rob (Karen) Littfin of Durango, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Chad Jackson, Jason Jackson, Gretchen Sauerwald, Cody Sauerwald, Shealey Imgarten, Gunnar Imgarten, Sean Littfin, Ryan Littfin and one great-grandson, Orlando Sauerwald.

A celebration of his life is being planned for June 18.
