Lois Evalyn Ehrsam, 91, went to be with her heavenly father on Dec. 16, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born in Donora, Pa. on March 27, 1923, the daughter of Ruben Earl Hagerson and Frances Thornley Hagerson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bryon and James Hagerson.

In 1941 she married Rodger R. McAlister, a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II, and raised two children as she supported her husband’s diplomatic career in the Middle East.

She married John Ross Ehrsam of Abilene, Kan. in 1967 and they moved to Scottsdale in 1971. They chose Fountain Hills as their home and became the 14th residents of this community.

They were involved in the business and social life of the community. Sadly John passed away in 1986. Lois called Fountain Hills home for 43 years, living in seven different homes.

Lois was an astute businesswoman, an avid bridge player, a devoted servant of God, a loyal friend to many, and the grand matriarch of her multi-generational family.

She is survived by her son, Rodger L. (Marilyn) McAlister and their sons, Rodger (Nancy), Brad (Kim) and Garrett (Christine); her daughter, Pamela (Thom) McAlister Hunzicker and their children, Kellie (John), Alicia (Kevin), Tommy (deceased); and sister, Joan Hagerson Matthias.

Her extended family includes four step-children, John, Ann, Vergie, Chris; one step- daughter, Linda; plus 14 great-grandchildren.

Revered by all her family members, she was lovingly called the “Great Nanno.”

A memorial service will be held at a January date (TBA) in Fountain Hills.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Fountain Hills, AZ or to a charity of your choice.
