Leonard M. Borsuk

Posted

Leonard Michael Borsuk passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 9, 2014. He was a man dedicated to hard work, family and friends.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1934, to a Ukraine couple, Mary Zagwodski and John Andrew Borsuk. Leonard was raised during the depression and did not have a lot of material things. In his early years he was active in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School as an altar boy. In high school he worked at the Iron Kettle Lanes Bowling Alley in Parma, Ohio, setting up bowling pins to help support his family.

He moved to Arizona in 1952 and started working right away for the Kroger Grocery Store chain. In 1967, he accepted a job at Bashas’. In 1975, Leonard eventually became the director of the Bashas’ Fountain Hills #47 store. Altogether, he worked 45 years in the grocery business. Hard work guided him through his life and he encouraged all those around him to set high standards and to do their best.

In 1974, Lenny joined a bowling league at Northgate Bowl and “topped the pin-spilling” with a nice 703 series. His single days were quite wild and the perfect part of his day was smoking, eating potato chips and drinking Pepsi, playing cards, and being rowdy with his best friends.

Lenny married the love of his life on April 24, 1976, Barbara, with all his children attending the wedding.

Leonard enjoyed all kinds of music and especially songs from The Stones, Rod Stewart, Three Dog Night, and CCR. He loved taking vacations with his family. For 40 years it was Leonard’s dream to go Egypt and explore the splendors of an ancient world. In 1998, his dream came true.

Leonard was well educated and very intelligent about world events. He was passionate about the affairs of a changing world.

Things that gave him the most pleasure was being with his family. It was with great pride that he was able to follow his four children as they grew and always be a shoulder to lean on.

Leonard is survived in death by his adoring wife, Barbara; their four treasured children; his five precious grandchildren; his great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Leonard always felt so grateful to have a beautiful family and to have so many friends wherever he went.

We love him and he will be missed forever.

Services will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ, on Friday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m.
