Tax credit deadline is April 15

Posted

Believe it or not, there’s still time to take part in the school tax credit program, as the cutoff date has been pushed to April 15 of each year.

In the past, tax credit donations had to be received by the end of the calendar year.

As always, these are a dollar-for-dollar contribution that can be made to a school, program, sport, club, activity or general area of your choosing.

The amounts remain at $200 for single individuals or couples filing separately, or $400 for couples filing jointly.

According to FHUSD Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sweeney, this means local schools have a bit more breathing room when it comes to receiving tax credit donations, as do potential donors.

“Beginning in 2016, credit eligible fees paid and contributions made to the public school from January 1 through April 15 of a calendar year may be used as a tax credit on the prior year’s tax return,” Sweeney stated.

“For example, qualifying contributions made to a public school January 1 to April 15, 2016, may be used as a tax credit on either your 2015 or 2016 Arizona income tax return.”

To make a contribution, call your local school of choice for further information or drop off a check on-site. Again, you may make a general contribution for the school or specify where, exactly, you would like the funds applied.
