School board to consider contracts

Teacher and administrative contracts will be the main focus of business during tonight’s Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board meeting, set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Center.

Three contract items make up the evening’s action agenda, including certified (teacher) contracts, principal contracts and those for assistant principals and site directors.

For starters, the board will consider authorizing Superintendent Tom Lawrence to issue certified contracts for the 2015-16 academic year, as well as proceed with a reduction in force, if needed.

After the most recent Governing Board study session to consider the coming year’s budget, Lawrence stated that he was hopeful cuts could be avoided through savings in attrition and retirement.

Also being considered tonight are contracts for various administrative positions. The board will consider authorizing Lawrence to issue contracts to site principals, including McDowell Mountain Elementary School’s Valerie Dehombreux, Four Peaks/Middle School’s Anita Gomez and the high school’s Tom Brennan.

Finally, the board will consider authorizing Lawrence to offer contracts to Four Peaks/Middle School Assistant Principal Anthony Galietti, Student Services Director Caroline Lynch, Executive Director of Business and Support Services Lisa Martinez, and Transportation Director Robert DeWolf.

Along with this final item, the board is being asked to consider changing contract language so that a renewal date for contracts is pushed back from March 31 to April 30.

The board has run into tight deadlines in recent years, as the March 31 date usually does not afford much opportunity to consider the budget and potential savings measures before offering contracts.
