The Fountain Hills Coalition is set to kick off its sixth annual High School Essay Contest for all local high school students, running from Jan. 8 through Feb. 2.

Entry forms and contest rules will be available in all Fountain Hills High School English classrooms, the Fountain Hills Branch Library and online at FHCoalition.org. The deadline to drop off or mail entries is Feb. 2.

Prizes for this year’s essay contest include $1,000 for first place, $300 for second place and $100 for third.

Interested students are encouraged to write an essay of 750 words or less on one of the following prompts:

*Name a song that you really relate to and write about how it has affected your life or the way you think.

*Write about what you like about the community of Fountain Hills or your school and tell us what you might change to improve it.

*If you could be a superhero, or a real-life hero, write about the kind of powers you would have and how you could use them to help others. If you choose the superhero, what would you be called? Also remember it must be an original superhero (not from Marvel or DC Comics).
