Veterans Day Nov. 11

Fountain Hills, like many communities throughout the country, will commemorate Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with a ceremony at the local Veterans Memorial in Fountain Park.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with the Parading and Posting of the Colors at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial on the south side of Fountain Park near the intersection of El Lago Boulevard and Kiwanis Drive.

The keynote speaker is SS Jason Bedore, U.S. Army (ret.), a wounded Iraq War combat veteran.

Responsibility for all ceremonies at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial rotates between the three local veterans organizations; VFW Post 7507, AMVETS Post 7 and American Legion Post 58.

This year VFW Post 7507 has lead responsibility for the ceremony.

The public (especially youth) is invited and, in fact, encouraged to attend. The wearing of shirts with the slogan “Home of the Free Because of the Brave” or other patriotic apparel is appropriate and encouraged.

Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and/or ribbons whether on civilian clothes or full/partial uniforms. VFW, American Legion and AMVETS members are encourage to wear organizational caps/hats and shirts.
