Recycling event Saturday

Posted

Spring cleaning is well under way and area residents who need a place to dispose of old documents or recycle outdated electronics and appliances will have two options for taking care of their disposal needs this Saturday, April 18.

A morning event will feature an electronics recycling opportunity and CFL recycling.

The first shredding event will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon (or until the truck is full) at the Fountain Hills Library parking lot.

That is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The Fountain Hills Bashas’ Center is also sponsoring a shredding event from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday for those who miss the library event.

Shredding events provide a safe solution for destroying old and unwanted sensitive documents.

All documents are shredded on site and brought to a recycling facility and recycled. There is a four-box limit of documents per person for the morning event and only soft cover folders can be shredded.

To be helpful, loosen large bundles of papers and remove all clips, binding and other metal objects from the documents. Documents must be attended at all times. Items left unattended will not be processed.

On Saturday morning the Town of Fountain Hills will also be collecting electronic equipment and will have a bulb crusher on hand for recycling CFL - fluorescent tube bulbs in the Community Center parking lot.

Westech Recyclers will be on hand to collect electronic items. Older TVs and computer monitors that have the big tubes (CRT - Cathode Ray Tube devices) will be collected by Westech for a $15 fee.

The Friends of the Library shredding service is a semi-annual event, April and November, and the town recycling service is an annual event in April. Both services are available for residents of Fountain Hills, the Verde Communities and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.

Free photos, more

As for the Bashas’ shredding event, there is no limit on the number of boxes.

Maggy Day Photography will have a studio set up inside American Family Insurance’s office (Dee Harrison) for those who are interested in getting some family photos for free.

It will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

The sponsors will be providing financial services information if people are seeking to review their insurance needs, find an accountant or have a legal need and are seeking an attorney.
