Workers began installing new asphalt on Saguaro Boulevard in the section beginning at El Lago Boulevard and moving south on Friday.
The first layer of pavement was spread after several weeks of work installing new curbing and preparing the base.
The first layer of asphalt was placed in the southbound lanes between Fountain Hills Boulevard and La Montana Drive earlier and this next section will extend from El Lago to Kingstree Boulevard.
The $8 million Saguaro reconstruction project is expected to take until October for completion.
