The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider this week whether to recommend the Town Council allow a special use permit for a residential apartment in a commercial building.

Brian and Deone Bayliss have made the request for property at 11883 Saguaro Boulevard.

The proposal is for a 1,500 square-foot apartment on the second floor of the building. The property is in a C-3 zoning district.

A public hearing will be held on the proposal.

The commission will also be holding hearings and consider a recommendation on special use permits for Salt River Project to install Smart Signal routers in Fountain Hills neighborhoods.

One application is for a 20-foot faux saguaro at 14405 Mourning Dove Drive in a residential R1-43 zoning district.

The second permit is also for a 20-foot faux cactus on a tract at the CopperWynd Resort.

SRP uses the equipment as part of its smart meter technology.

The commission meets Thursday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
