The Town Council has a busy agenda lined up for its regular session Thursday, May 21.

The council will consider land use applications for development of an assisted living project, a request to expand the permitted hours of operation for the medical marijuana dispensary in Fountain Hills and they will consider an employment agreement for Grady Miller as town manager to succeed the retiring Town Manager Ken Buchanan (see separate stories on these items).

The council will hear an update on the legislative session from Ken Strobeck, executive director for the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, and there will be special recognition for the town receiving a $10,000 grant for the national Make a Difference Day from USA Today.

Fountain Hills Noon Kiwanis will be the non-profit recipient of the grant award.

The council is to consider a recommendation from the Community Services Advisory Commission to extend the current lease for the Technology Learning Center through September this year.

This is to allow additional time for the commission and staff to come to an arrangement with TLC for it to continue to offer technology classes for residents.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended the council discontinue the requirement that business owners using A-frame advertising signs purchase a permit for their signs.

This change will hopefully lead to better compliance with other A-frame sign regulations.

The council will also discuss and possibly give staff direction regarding the purchase and installation of street lighting at the intersection of Saguaro Boulevard and Avenue of the Fountains.

This item could allow staff to execute an agreement to spend up to $66,750 to have the lights installed with the Saguaro Boulevard reconstruction project.

The Town Council meets Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
