Election registration deadline is Monday

The deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 30, primary election for town council members and various state, county and federal offices is looming.

The registration deadline is next Monday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m.

People can register by visiting the Maricopa County Recorder’s website, recorder.maricopa.gov/elections.

Voters who are registered with no party affiliation need to remember that, when they go to the polls or ask for an early ballot for the primary, they will need to designate what ballot they want to vote on.

There are three choices for Fountain Hills voters, including Democrat, Republican or Town Council only. The choices for the council seats are included in the partisan ballots but, for anyone who just wants to vote in the council election, they can request a ballot with only those candidates listed.

Early ballots will be sent out via mail on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Those who want to vote early, but not necessarily by mail, can visit a number of early balloting sites including Fountain Hills Town Hall beginning Monday, Aug. 8. You will be able to cast an early ballot during town hall business hours, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The August primary election will include three seats on the Town Council and the office of mayor. There are five candidates for the three seats including two incumbents, Councilmen Dennis Brown and Cecil Yates. Also on the ballot for council are former Councilman and P&Z Chairman Mike Archambault, Timothy Rawlings and Art Tolis.

Mayor Linda Kavanagh is running without a nominated opponent. However, former Councilwoman Ginny Dickey has mounted a write-in campaign to challenge Kavanagh at the polls.
