Council to consider change order for Shea work

The Town Council will consider a $300,000 change order to the construction work being done on Shea Boulevard when it meets Thursday.

It has been determined by testing that sections of the asphalt between the town boundary at the Beeline Highway and Technology Drive are inadequate and a mill and overlay will not make a proper repair.

It has been recommended that those portions of the asphalt be completely removed, the base properly prepared and new asphalt be installed instead of just the overlay topcoat.

Nesbitt Contracting’s proposal is an amount not to exceed $298,271 for the change in the contract.

The change order is included on the council consent agenda so it is tentatively not open for discussion unless someone asks to remove it for discussion.

The only item on this week’s regular agenda is the standing discussion related to items pending before the Legislature. The session is winding down and there are only a few items still being monitored by the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

There will be a presentation by Michael Stull, Cox Communications government relations manager, related to new technology and the Cox commitment to the community pledge.

The Town Council will meet Thursday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The session is open to the public.
