Council to consider assisted living plan
Posted
When it meets Thursday the Town Council will consider a request from a builder to allow development of an assisted living campus at Saguaro Boulevard and Trevino Drive, just north of Shea Boulevard.
There are several pieces of land use regulations that need to be amended to allow the project proposed by Fountain Hills builder/developer Dan Kauffman.
The plans include changing the existing C-1 (neighborhood commercial) zoning to a Planned Area Development (PAD) to cover the specifics of the project, particularly a special use permit to allow assisted living.
The council also needs to consider abandonment of hillside protection easements on the property and a fill waiver for up to 10 feet on the site.
Kauffman is calling the project on the 5.75-acre parcel the Hemingway, which will include 10 separate buildings approximately 10,000 square feet each. Seven of the buildings will include 16 assisted living suites with two of the buildings having 11 independent living suites.
A separate building will serve as a clubhouse gathering place with a commercial kitchen and offices.
Plans for the individual buildings include laundry, beauty parlor, medicine storage, a living room, library, dining area and patio. There will be a warming kitchen in each separate building.
The Town Council meets Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The session is open to the public and there is a public hearing related to this project.
