Council dissolves Public Safety Commission
Posted
The Town Council has voted to dissolve the town’s Public Safety Advisory Commission (PSAC).
The commission was established in 2004 at the time the Marshal’s Office had been disbanded in order to observe the transition to a single provider contract with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Town Manager Ken Buchanan noted that transition went well and the MCSO agreement has been a benefit to the town.
Buchanan also noted that the law enforcement and fire service contracts are approved by the Town Council and administered by the town manager.
PSAC has not had a great deal of work or projects in recent years. Its major work has been organizing Public Safety Day every year or two. They have also sponsored guest speakers on public safety related issues.
The seven member commission currently has only two active members. Three terms expired as of Dec. 31, and were not replaced. Two other commission members had resigned.
In making his motion to dissolve the commission, Councilman Dennis Brown expressed his appreciation to the commission members who volunteered their time over the years to assist the council.
