FireRock majority wants to buy course

A majority of FireRock Country Club members want to purchase the golf course and club facilities for $5.5 million.

The “unofficial” election results were revealed May 1 at a membership meeting. Members not in attendance received an email May 2 notifying them of the outcome.

The email stated that “members showed their overwhelming support for the club purchase with 64 percent of the eligible voters in favor of the purchase.”

Voting against the purchase amount to 16 percent. Approximately 20 percent of the members did not vote. The email stated that the yes vote accounted for 80 percent of the votes cast.

The acquisition committee headed by a new chair, Sandra Nogue, now has until May 26 to consider whether or not to proceed and begin an additional 30 days of due diligence.

A purchase offer from professional golfer Phil Mickelson to purchase FireRock Country Club “stays in place” until the membership executes the purchase contract, said MCO Properties President Jeremy Hall. MCO currently owns FireRock.
