Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from an 89-year-old Fountain Hills man that he was defrauded of $1,253 by a telephone scam.

The man told deputies he received a call from a man identifying himself as an attorney representing the man’s grandson who needed bail money for a DUI charge. The man sent $1,253, but the “attorney” asked for the same amount again.

At that point the man and his wife did some checking and located his grandson in North Dakota, not in Pennsylvania, where the attorney said he was being held.

The man then reported the fraud to MCSO.

*An abandoned vehicle was reported in the area of Panorama Dr. on Sept. 29. The vehicle appeared to have been stationary for an extended period and, upon a records check, it was discovered that the owner had been evicted from their Fountain Hills home and their current whereabouts were unknown. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

*On Friday, Oct. 2, deputies were called to the intersection of Avenue of the Fountains and Verde River Drive. The accident was on private property and no citations were issued.
