Truck roll-over closes Beeline

Posted

The Beeline Highway between Shea Boulevard and Gilbert Road was closed Thursday morning after a semi-tractor trailer crossed the median about half way between the CAP and Arizona canals and rolled over.

The truck was northbound on SR87 when it crossed through the median and rolled partially blocking the southbound lanes.

A Fountain Hills Fire Department vehicle was heading into the Valley for maintenance work at the time and was nearly struck by the semi, according to Fountain Hills Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Dave Ott.

The firefighter and a passing off-duty police officer assisted two people and a dog in getting out of the vehicle. A woman was driving at the time of the accident and a man was asleep in the rear of the cab.

The two occupants were taken by ambulance to a Scottsdale hospital for evaluation of injuries.

Ott said the truck spilled about 75 gallons of fuel requiring a hazardous materials team for clean-up.

Northbound lanes of the Beeline were reopened within an hour of the accident. Southbound lanes were partially reopened after about two hours according to ADOT.
