Phil's Place
There is nothing like a diner or family-type restaurant.
It’s cozy. It’s friendly. It’s homey. Phil’s Place fills the bill.
Owned by John Rodakis, managed and operated by his son, Phil, is a perfect example of this type of dining experience.
“What we have to offer is comfort food with a family atmosphere,” Phil says. “We give large portions for a moderate price and believe no one should leave hungry or dissatisfied.”
Phil’s Place opened at its current location in Fountain Hills Oct. 1, 2007. The location is 16758 E. Glenbrook Blvd., formerly known as “Jimmy’s” Krazy Greek Restaurant. Phil’s reputation in the restaurant and catering business is well-known in Fountain Hills solely on the success of Phil’s Filling Station Restaurant, which he managed and operated for the past 10 years.
The new location worried Phil at first, but John felt they were making a good move. After opening Oct. 1, Phil agreed, saying he had his doubts but the acceptance has been humbling.
“We have a great following,” says Phil. “All the hugs and love I have received from our customers has humbled me every day. It’s amazing.”
While the location is off the beaten path – Phil’s Place is located off Fountain Hills Boulevard near the middle and charter schools – the menu is such that it gives customers a reason to drive out of their comfort zone and into the comfort of Phil’s Place. The difference here is that it is homier, cozier and friendlier. The food is good, and menu is getting good acceptance, John says.
“This is good, basic food,” John says. “It’s the kind of food people from the east and Midwest have grown up with. We have a menu with a huge selection. When you have a six-page menu, you’re going to be able to have something for everybody.”
The menu features salads, sandwiches, fish, ribs, burgers, pasta, soups, beef, pork, chicken, plus daily specials. For breakfast, you can select omelets, other egg dishes, cereal, pancakes and breakfast meats.
“We have a large array of food representing different cultures,” Phil said. “We’re a one-stop shop. That’s why families like eating here.”
In addition to “good old American food,” Phil’s Place features Greek food, Italian and Mexican fare.
“Our food is based on consistency and quality,” John said. “No matter what the culture is, you can count of the food being good.”
Phil and John agree that their customers are like family.
“I want people to come in to Phil’s Place and feel like they are coming home,” John said.
Phil says he wants all the people in the community to know he is here to make them happy.
“I am humbled every day in the restaurant when people keep coming up to me and telling me how happy they are that I am here at Phil’s Place,” he said. “Money doesn’t make me rich. It’s taking care of all the people in the community and giving them a good meal and having them leave happy and full. That alone makes me the richest man in the world – making other people happy.”
