If snow falls, there are great ski slopes in Arizona
Arizona Snowbowl
Location: Seven miles north of Flagstaff along Highway 180.

Perhaps the most popular ski destination in Arizona, Snowbowl offers a 2,300 foot total elevation drop. Snowboarders and skiers are welcome.
Sunrise Park Resort
Location: Around 200 miles from the NE Valley. Take Hwy 87 to Payson. Take Hwy 260 east through McNary to Hwy 273. Turn right on 273. Ski area is seven miles south.

Sunrise Park Resort is in the heart of the White Mountains. With 65 runs, the area offers something for everyone – from experts to the resort’s “Ski-wee” slope. The area’s 10 lifts have an uphill skier capacity of 16,000 skiers per hour.
Mount Lemmon Ski Valley
Location: Mt. Lemmon, Ariz. 30 miles northeast of Tucson
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Skiing is usually November through April, depending on snowfall.

Forest service fees: Skiers who drive non-stop to and from Ski Valley do not pay the $5 Day Pass fee. If your ski trip includes stops at other recreation sites on Mt. Lemmon, however, you will need to purchase the Day Pass, which is available at the Moling Fee Station on the Catalina Highway at milepost 4.5, or at Palisades Visitor Center at milepost 19.5.

Mt. Lemmon’s famed sky ride takes visitors to 9,100 feet through Ponderosa pine, ancient Douglas fir and Quaking aspen. To warm your toes, take a ski break at the Iron Door Restaurant and dig into its chili and cornbread meal.
Elk Ridge Ski and Outdoor Recreation
Formerly known as the Williams Ski Area
Location: 30 miles west of Flagstaff on Interstate 40.

Runs: Seven (30 percent beginner, 50 percent intermediate, 20 percent advanced)

Though not as large as other ski areas, Williams does offer 50 acres to swish on and a vertical drop of 600 feet. There’s also a tubing hill for those not so sturdy on skis or a snowboard.
