The Fountain
A Guide to Fountain Hills & Northeast Scottsdale

Pools require maintenance, oversight, responsibility

Pool maintenance is the most basic part of pool ownership.

Without proper circulation from an adequate pool pump or the proper chemical balance, algae and bacteria can form. Stagnant, unfiltered pools make a great breeding ground for mosquitoes. Unkempt pools are strictly prohibited in Fountain Hills and Scottsdale, as well as in other Valley cities.

Fountain Hills has adopted the regulations on wastewater disposal from the Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code, as well as the Drainage Policies and Standards for Maricopa County.

The City of Scottsdale prohibits the disposal of swimming pool water into the street or directly in to a sewer manhole. Scottsdale encourages the re-use of pool water to irrigate landscaping on a resident’s property. There are measures to take to ensure that the water is safe for plants.

Scottsdale residents are able to use the City sewer system provided they utilize the sewer clean-out on the property. The property owner is liable for any back up or damage caused by draining a pool in to the City sewer.

In Fountain Hills, residents must drain pools in to the sewer cleanout on the property. Pool water cannot be drained on to streets or in to a wash.

Homeowners are encouraged to learn proper pool maintenance or hire a qualified licensed pool service to maintain their pool.
