XS4D: Latest in sounds, special effects now available in FH

As media become more and more technologically advanced, sensations have become a bigger part of the experience.

Surround sound, special effects, 3D. Technology keeps growing and changing, and Yvonne Wyman and Brook Douglas of Progressive Flooring/Fantasia Interiors, not only are keeping up with the technology, but they are going beyond the latest in home theater offerings.

Wyman and Douglas have introduced the XS4D, an upscale and stylish chair that will eclipse all other systems in the home theater world.

The XS4D, abbreviation for Extreme Sound in the Fourth Dimension, provides a complete sound system that enhances the overall effect of movies, games and music. Not only is the person sitting in the chair completely engulfed in sound, but special effects can be felt as well as seen. There are vibrations with the appearance of a mega-monster in Ironman and super-realistic sounds of tires screeching, people running, metal crunching. You are not just watching a movie; you are in it.

The technology behind the chair was developed by O.M. Hampton, the creator of the NASCAR simulator. Other principals include Bob Gattin, who invited the flat screen television for Phillips, Sprint’s Wanda Watson and MCI’s Carl Smith. The collaboration among these four people has resulted in the “perfect media sound system,” said Wyman.

When sitting in the chair experiencing a medium, the individual is in a cocoon of sound. With the sound inside the chair booming, outside the sound is comfortable. With more than one chair in a setting, each person can control his own sound.

“Some people like the sound a lot louder than somebody else,” Dolan said. “Each person controls his own chair.”

Regardless of the number of chairs on a system, users have one remote to control each individual chair.

The sound can be adjusted to be able to clearly hear dialog despite loud background sound. The patented technology is called “Clear Voice,” and it enables the watcher to set the sound to his own taste.

The technology comes with a surprise benefit only just discovered by Douglas. The system can be heard by the hearing impaired.

“We had a customer in who has no hearing in his left ear,” Wyman said. “He sat in the chair and was watching a demonstration when we noticed him crying.”

When they stopped the demonstration, the customer reported that he had not heard anything for years, and the sound system enabled him to sense the audio portion in his left ear.

“It was really great,” Wyman said.

Fantasia is the master dealer of the XS4D west of the Mississippi River. Wyman and Douglas introduced the chair at the World Design Market in Las Vegas earlier this fall. The chair also appeared at the Indianapolis 500 and at other venues where masses gathered.

Chairs currently are available in three recliner designs and one chair and ottoman offering. They retail from $2,900 to $3,430 depending on the fabric. Fabric choices are numerous, as are colors.

“This is really such an exciting thing,” Wyman said. “The world has not seen or felt anything like this before. And we, in little Fountain Hills, are going to introduce it to the world.”

Fantasia Interiors is located at 16853 E. Palisades Blvd., Suite 101. Call (480) 837-0650 for more information about the XS4D and other services available from the Fountain Hills business.
