A successful career in the construction business takes tenacity, caring and commitment.

Bill Reilly, owner of Preferred Building Systems, Inc., knows what it is to succeed.

Reilly grew up in construction. He watched his father, Tom Reilly help grow a community one home at a time. (Tom) Reilly and Sons Builders was one of the original contractors in Fountain Hills.

Preferred Building Systems has built numerous homes in the Valley. One of the Fountain Hills' firm's newest projects is Fountain Mist, a luxury condominium complex at El Lago and Saguaro boulevards.

The Reilly family moved to Fountain Hills in 1972, when the community was wide open for developing. After working with his father to help build Fountain Hills, Bill continued in the business, and success has followed him.

Bill has been in construction for more than 25 years. He has not only the heritage of the business, but he also has training in different methods of construction.

Reilly has been involved in a variety of projects throughout the Valley. A loft project in Scottsdale, Laloma 5 was designed by Architect Will Bruder. The development has the distinction of being the first green building project in Scottsdale, using environmentally friendly construction methods and techniques.

Laloma 5 was presented with the American Institute of Architects’ Merit Award for Design. The award is one of many Reilly has won.

Reilly said custom homes have been a focus with his company, but he is glad to have the opportunity to work on smaller projects as well. The work will be done well, regardless of the project’s size.

Preferred Building Systems has incorporated a complete department that takes care of remodeling projects.

“With Fountain Hills getting close to build-out, there are many homes that may be completely torn down and rebuilt, especially with the rising property values,” Reilly said. “We are able to do tear-downs, as well as smaller remodeling jobs.”

One of Reilly’s newer projects, Fountain Mist Townhomes near Fountain Park is nearing completion. The 16-unit development is located at Saguaro and El Lago boulevards. Fountain Mist offers upgraded amenities, and high-end construction features.

While there are differences in how things get done in construction in the 21st century, some things don’t change.

Reilly’s commitment to quality and to his business remains at the top of his priorities.

“It has always been important to me to work closely with each and every project I have,” he said. “That level of oversight makes the difference in the outcome of every job.”

Reilly said clients have grown more sophisticated in their involvement in homebuilding.

“They have more resources today to keep them informed,” he said. “Their expectations are high, and I am there to see that they are met.”

Reilly said being in the community for more than 30 years is telling.

“There are builders who have built some good quality homes in Fountain Hills, but only a handful (of those builders) is left,” Reilly said. “We have withstood the test of time, and we’re going to stay here.”

Reilly said when Preferred Building Systems is hired to do a job, the client is getting a company with expertise.

And clients are hiring a company that pays attention to every last detail. Reilly keeps his job superintendents overseeing no more than two homes at a time.

“That way they are able to keep a close eye on each project,” Reilly said. “We want the focus to be clear.”

Preferred Building Systems uses Microsoft’s Project in order to keep everyone on track and on the same page.

“We break it all down for the client,” Reilly said. “You get a really professionally run project when you come to us.”

Reilly doesn’t rely solely on computer software or superintendents to make sure a job is going according to plan. His own philosophy of customer service means he will be involved in each project.
