Depending on whether you have a little time to give or a lot, you can affect someone’s life in a positive way.
By contributing one hour a week, you can become a mentor with The Fountain Hills Mentor Program and give back to the next generation.
Mentoring is a program that really works. Students with mentors reported greater confidence in their performance at school and better relationships with their families. Mentored students are less likely to skip a day of school and less likely to be at risk. Mentored students are more likely to be productive members of society and give back to their community.
Mentoring is rewarding to all those involved. By providing trusting relationships between young people and individuals, who offer support and encouragement, mentoring has the power to affect change. Through mentoring, one of the many rewards will be to watch your mentee gain confidence as they move towards the successes in their lives.
Volunteering your time, your insights and your guidance to The Fountain Hills Mentor Program will be greatly valued with this school- and community-based program.
The program takes place on school grounds, is under the supervision of teachers and administrators, has built-in activities and is based around academics.
Currently, the Fountain Hills Mentor Program is in McDowell Mountain and Four Peaks Elementary Schools and Fountain Hills Middle School, for grades K-8.
The Fountain Hills Mentor Program requires two hours of training being scheduled throughout the year and a background check.
Current mentors include parents, retirees, college students, snowbirds, part-time and full-time employees, business owners and anyone and everyone willing to commit to one hour a week.
The Fountain Hills Mentor Program won a 2007 first place Golden Bell Award from the Arizona School Board Association for achieving excellence through academic programs. Contributions dedicated to the program go 100 percent towards training, supplies, background checks and marketing materials.
